WinScribe Wins 2006 Consensus Software Award

1st May, 2006 - The gala dinner for the 2006 Consensus Software Awards was held in Sydney on the 26th of April. More than 100 companies from across Australia and New Zealand were competing for the annual award, with 26 finalists nominated for the final round.

Consensus is committed to supporting Australian innovation and enterprise. The Consensus Awards are now in their seventh year and aim to reward excellence in software design and to grow and strengthen software development in Australia and New Zealand. This year was the first time that the awards were open to New Zealand companies.

The awards are based on an open nomination process, with individuals and/or organisations nominating companies to be put before the Consensus judging panel. This year’s awards were judged over two days by an expert panel comprising of industry representatives, including Managing Directors, Business Consultants, Public Relations Specialists, and IT Managers.

WinScribe is a New Zealand based software company, and its digital dictation software solution has seen the company become a leader in improving dictation workflow management for organisations worldwide.

For entrants to be considered as an award winner, they needed to score high in each of the three judging criteria – innovation, performance and potential. WinScribe was shortlisted along with 25 other leading software companies for the awards and were thrilled to be a winner on the evening.

The Consensus Award was presented to WinScribe by Norbert Haehnel, Director of the Developer & Platform Strategy Group, Microsoft and Kerstin Baxter, Director of the Partner Group, Microsoft. The New Zealand Consul General, Sarah Craig, The Hon. Senator Stephen Conroy, Shadow Minister for Communications and Information Technology and Steven Ciobo MP, Member for Moncrieff were also present.

In a statement from the Australian Prime Minister, the Hon. John Howard praised the Consensus Software Awards winners as a testament to “our nation’s culture of creativity and innovation. Australia’s highly skilled and innovative software designers have once again demonstrated their ability to produce first-class, globally competitive products. I congratulate all involved with the Consensus Software Awards, the organizers, finalists and winners, for your contribution to the software industry and wish you every success for the future.”

Matthew Weavers, WinScribe’s CEO said “This is fantastic recognition for all the hard work of WinScribe’s staff, who I would like to thank for their dedication and support. A big thank you also has to go to Microsoft for nominating us for the award in the first place.”
